Musician, Athlete & Coach. What Can’t He Do? Kinesiologist, Branden Ma

We would like to Welcome the newest member to our Metrotown Kinesiology Team, Branden Ma!

Branden found his passion for Kinesiology through his personal experience as an athlete when he had to overcome a shoulder injury early in his competitive career. His road to recovery taught him a lot about the importance of exercise prescription. He began to recognize the role movement played in restoring range of motion, strength and stability, allowing him to return to sport and activity of everyday life.

Branden is no stranger to competition. He has stayed active in a multitude of sports and activities, including joining an Ultimate Frisbee team at the end of High School that went on to compete in the Canadian junior nationals. Branden was not only a passionate player but also coach, sharing his knowledge and love for the sport while coaching the Vancouver Misfit U18 ultimate team.

While physical activity is his go-to for extracurricular activity, interestingly, Branden also played the violin at a high performance level. He carries a love for music with him and is actively working to improve his piano skills. During his time off you can find him unwinding with his friends, while trying the many restaurants that the lower mainland has to offer. In his own words: ‘Love all foods. Big food guy’.

What can you expect from your initial session with Branden?

Branden believes in the importance of empowering clients through education and effective functional rehabilitative exercise. Your initial session will start with a thorough assessment to identify areas of concern. Following the assessment, a treatment plan will be designed and discussed with the goal of guiding you back to full function. Your treatment plan will include a home exercise program designed specifically for you. Branden enjoys relating to his clients through his shared experience and aims to future proof you against recurring injury.

Branden’s one piece of wellness advice is to “Stay active everyday!” Whether it be a walk or an intense workout session, he likes to remind his clients that staying active everyday is an amazing way to maintain and improve your overall wellness.
