Tanya’s Journey: From Finance to Bodyworker (…and soon, Registered Massage Therapist!)

A Little More About Tanya

We are so excited to be officially welcoming our very first Bodyworker to the TT team, Tanya Skipor! Tanya is an excellent service provider with experience in the field of massage who is working towards her Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) designation. We are thrilled to have her, and wanted to share a little bit more about Tanya with our clients.

Interestingly, Tanya’s career did not begin in the healthcare industry. In fact, she worked in Finance for ten years! After ten years, she felt compelled to transition to a field where she was working directly with people. She began working with aromatherapy, and over time, developed a passion for massage. After working as a Bodyworker for two years, she realised that she wanted to continue to learn and be able to work with more complicated conditions, which ultimately led to her decision to begin her journey towards becoming an RMT.

Tanya is entering her final semester of the RMT program, and will be graduating from the program in the spring of 2023 at which time she will focus on further preparing for the board exams. We are honoured to be a part of her journey to becoming an RMT!

Tanya is currently enrolled at the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy (VCMT) where she is continuing to expand her knowledge. She finds the information she learns at school to be very stimulating and exciting and is fascinated by the complexity and individuality of the human body.

Tanya would like people to know that massage is a great way to take care of your body, and can help with a broad spectrum of issues for a lot of people, including stress management. She feels that massage is a great way to relax and restore balance to the body. Tanya is dedicated to this field and loving every minute of it!

Once Tanya graduates and steps away from school, she looks forward to doing some travelling! She is especially looking forward to visiting Bali and exploring other parts of Asia.

When not treating clients or attending classes and studying, Tanya can be found practising yoga, working out, eating Asian food (Hot Pot is her favourite!), and taking some “me time” so she can better serve her clients.

What to Expect in Your Bodyworker Session With Tanya

Tanya strongly believes in a multifaceted approach, from a thorough initial assessment, through to clearly communicated aftercare. Your assessment will include reviewing your health history to best understand your current condition, reviewing your chief complaint as well as your goals for the massage! Additionally, Tanya will complete a hands-on assessment including postural examination, motion analysis and special tests, where appropriate.

Your massage will consist of a variety of techniques (eg. Swedish massage) aimed to address your specific needs. Tanya believes in the importance of communication, including reaching out to you for feedback on pressure and comfort. Tanya will ensure your treatment plan is clearly communicated, including your home exercise program and referrals for other treatment modalities, if required.

Tanya can currently treat those with sprains/strains, bursitis, tendonitis or other kinds of overuse injuries, people suffering from tension headaches related to postural imbalances or muscle tension after intense workout. In the future, she will be able to work with pregnant women, helping them with edema, or muscle stiffness related to pregnancy.

If you do not have or have run out of extended health benefits, Non-Registered Massage is offered at a reduced rate and may be a good fit for you!
