Shawn Tjen - Registered Acupuncturist
I used to be a software engineer, working on programming for better and more efficient logic of software. I was stunned to see how a good software solution can make the whole ecosystem evolve much better. After years of experience as a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, I have found that acupuncture and Chinese medicine treatment can greatly contribute to the human body a better and more efficient logic of physiological functions, which, in turn, makes the body healthier, just like applying good software solution.
When a patient comes in with any concerns about their health, I would listen, watch and hear first. Listening to their speaking, watching their postures and movements, and hearing how they breathe tell me a lot of information about their current conditions. I, then, palpate with hands-on assessment to find the problems and apply acupuncture needles on the carefully selected points. My best approach for pain management is with electro-acupuncture, cupping and myofascial release techniques, which wholistically, can give a quicker and longer-lasting result by relieving tension from muscles, restoring the balance in between the muscle groups, and calming the nerve sensitivity.
When I am not with my patients, I spend time with my two lovely daughters and my wife, Clara. I love playing baseball and also enjoy hiking in beautiful North Vancouver trails.
