Summer Needs to be Here. Now.
Summer officially started as of June 21st, but a lot of us certainly aren’t feeling that way. We’ve spent the past two months glued to our couch watching the Canucks, eating junk food and drinking beer. Add to that a cold, wet spring, and a lot of us are stuck in winter hibernation mode. July is just around the corner, which means that we only have two months left to bust out of our blahs before the cold, wet months are back.
Studies have shown that during the summer, activity levels increase. The only problem with this is that for every 1% increase in activity levels during summer, activity levels decrease by 2% when the weather is bad (think cold, wet spring). This creates a vicious cycle where each summer, you’re a little less active than you were the previous summer.
Not only have our activity levels taken a hit this year, but our mental well-being has also been affected. The disappointing playoff finish and ensuing rioting has left a lot of us with a bad taste in our mouths. Add to that a lack of sunshine and warm weather, and it’s no wonder that we’re feeling drained and rundown.
So what can we do? We need to address the physical and mental state of our bodies. Treating one while ignoring the other is to miss a key part of the puzzle. The best solutions are integrative.
